In a murder case that's getting increasingly odd, Melissa Huckaby, who was charged with the rape and murder of Sandra Cantu, reportedly tried to kill herself just days before her arrest by swallowing razor blades. According to CBS 5's Joe Vazquez:

Melissa Huckaby was hospitalized after swallowing three X-Acto knife blades, sources told CBS News. She remained under jail suicide watch Wednesday after being formally charged Tuesday with kidnapping, raping and murdering her daughter's playmate, Sandra Cantu.

In a text message Huckaby sent to CBS 5 on the night of her arrest, she had denied trying to take her own life: "And no I was not in the hospital for suicide attempt. LOL."

LOL? Freak.

Huckaby will return to court on April 24 to enter a plea. A public memorial for Cantu will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. at Merrill F. West High School in Tracy.

In other news, contrary to media reports, there are bushels of other missing and/or murdered children out there from which to choose, folks! Really, Cantu isn't the only little angel you can think of while you're screaming to God, "Why?! WHY!?" The site Black and Missing But Not Forgotten can even prove it to you.
