Not since Lindsey Lohan and Britney Spears has the media been so interested in one person's health condition. That person, of course, is Silicon Valley's Steve Jobs. And now the SEC wants to get in the know. Though the ailing Apple CEO has asked to be left alone regarding his health status, the Security and Exchange Commission is now asking the Mac cult leader what's up.

According to reports, "U.S. regulators are examining Apple Inc.’s disclosures about Chief Executive Officer Steve Jobs’s health problems to ensure investors weren’t misled." (Jobs is allegedly planning on having a liver transplant due to complications after treatment for pancreatic cancer.) Basically, the SEC wants to know if Jobs is still up to snuff in dong his job. Or is/was he currently some sort of Fidel Castro-like figure head, secretly not running the show at Apple. (Job, we should point out, has taken a leave of absence until June.)

The informal SEC inquiry comes just as Apple prepares to announce their quarterly earnings later this afternoon
