Wow. Mayor Gavin Newsom is offering a whopping $250,000 bounty for the head of the person(s) who shot and killed Terrell Rogers in January. If you recall, Rogers, a father and anti-violence activist, was murdered just across the street from Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory, during his daughter's basketball game.

Now, Newsom wants an answer. And the get that answer he's offering up an unusually large reward. Nice. And strange. Why? Because just last year he publicly announced that reward money doesn't do shit insofar as nabbing criminals. Even SFPD spokesman Sgt. Neville Gittens said that "when we issue rewards like that, we do generally get calls and they are helpful."

Well, at least it seems like something is getting done.

MAYOR NEWSOM ANNOUNCES $250,000 REWARD IN FATAL SHOOTING OF TERRELL ROGERS

San Francisco, CA – Today, Mayor Newsom announced a $250,000 reward for
information leading to the identification, apprehension and conviction of
the person(s) responsible for the death of Terrell Rogers that occurred on
January 12, 2008 in the parking lot across the street from the gymnasium of
Sacred Heart College Preparatory High School at 1055 Ellis Street in San
Francisco.
