As a result, people in the neighborhood are in full "mad as hell and we're not going to take it anymore" mode and organizing. Their request? Send cards, letters, and e-mails to Gavin, Kamala Harris, and Police Chief Heather Fong telling them to do something, anything, about the violence. Like, now.
The group in question is the North of Panhandle Neighborhood Association (NOPNA). And to help out, they've created a blog letting everyone know who to send those cards, letters, and e-mails too with information on what to say and who else to copy on those e-mails. What they're basically calling for are things like more foot patrols, more safety and security in the projects, actually prosecuting people and a whole bunch of other things (and no, putting Lester Freamon in charge of everything was not mentioned, but we're sure that'll help). Anyways, check out the blog and help them out.
BTW-- we got word of another shooting in Lower Haight yesterday. We haven't seen any stories on anything yet, but we did get an e-mail from somebody who said they heard gun shots and police sirens. If you got any information, let us know.
