With Rita's blessing, we bring you a brand new column called "We Read the Glossies." It's just like "We Read the Weeklies" only with monthly glossies. Here we review the February issues of Diablo, San Francisco Magazine, San Jose Magazine, and 7x7.
Just when SFist Rain wondered what Survivor winner Yul Kwon had done for us lately, we found him on the cover of Diablo! Yul reveals he initially thought dividing the teams by race was a bad idea. We also learn that Yul's birthday was on Valentine's Day, but he didn't have a Valentine. (For real? You should have called us, Yul. You're hot.) People: San Ramon Mayor H. Abram Wilson talks about being a black man in the 'burbs. East Bay Oscar for Best Supporting Actress goes to Luenell, the Castro Valley High School alumna who played the prostitute in Borat. Watch out for Diablo's traffic jam webcam at the I-680 at Highway 24 Interchange. That totally reminds us of that dude in Smoke Signals.
Next, San Francisco Magazine: Cover article: The SF skyline in 2020. The scoop on where we might be living in the next decade – Mission Bay will be the new “urban burb,” the Transbay area is “SoMish,” and Rincon Hill just keeps getting higher. Expect a dogfight over who gets to design the 550 ft tall (but possibly higher) Transbay Tower. A (dirty?) boulevard from Second Street to the Embarcadero. SoMa East and SoMa West are getting a makeover. We can't handle any more new neighborhood names! An interview with Aaron Peskin, the man behind the new downtown. Even more Speedo pictures? Loves it! Check out our man Drew Altizer in the Contributors section. Outtakes: a shot of Drew looking for a shot, and gossip diva Leah Garchik. Work it, Leah!
After the jump: San Jose Magazine, 7x7, the first-ever Glossy of the Month, and the YTD count.
