They're also planning to allocate $64,000 to Public Works for the sprucing up a few blocks of Valencia Street -- that's just design-engineering of 17th to 19th, not the actual construction. Construction will probably happen around the end of 2007 or beginning of 2008, and they're gearing up to allocate a half million for that, in addition to a grant of two and a half million that's coming from the county-wide MeTransCom.
But wait! There's more! They're also going to put about a third of a million dollars into bicycle outreach programs. The money will be spent trying to teach bicyclists to avoid doing the sort of crap that gets them run over: darting in front of trains, violating right of way, whizzing up onto the sidewalk, riding in the dark without lights. We predict that the bicyclists will welcome with open arms the suggestion that they might modify their behavior.
And finally, they're moving to accept the results of an independent audit that showed that their books were generally open and well-kept. That's good news for the SFCTA, which was accused a few years ago of lousy bookkeeping. Yay! Oh, and they're also going to report on the status the 3rd Street line -- about $30 million over budget, by their estimates. Wonder if there'll be any talk about how the platforms were built two inches higher than they were supposed to be?
