The reasons for the new sign is because of last night's little speech that the President gave. Activists behind the crosses are calling it a "panic button" or "stop sign" and hope that it gets some attention out there. People who didn't like the crosses to begin with are not that happy with it as it takes something that was somewhat easy to see into something that is really easy to see. Some people just don't like it because, well, neon signs are kind of tacky.

The sign goes against all those ordinance laws that the activists had followed up to a point. Lafayette officials, probably wishing that something like this could have happened in say Orinda or Walnut Creek, are looking into it to see if the sign could stay up or will have to be taken down.
