And to help fend off the Board, Police Commissioner Heather Fong, with the POA and Precinct Captains along for the ride, issued a plan to supersede the Board-- put even more cops on the ground. That'll show them. Fong says their plan is more flexible and, whatever, they know best anyways. In response, Ross Mirkarimi furrowed his soul patch and said Fong was placing politics over policy. Fong also said that if the Board votes to override the veto, she might just not get around to doing it. Which will raise an interesting question-- if the cops don't enforce the law about upholding the law, who will? We don't know, but we can't wait to find out. Come on override.

Also up for debate today is Tom Ammiano's decriminalization bill, the one that will basically say that if the cops find anybody getting stoned, the most they could do is tell the accused "shame, shame, everybody knows your name" and move along. Previously, a board committee (the Board Board!) voted yes for the measure with some measure of blessing from the cops. But not so much neighborhood groups who think it'll just make things even harder to pretty and clean. Says the awesomely named Kim Stryker "This measure, which would legalize the unlimited growth and sales (of marijuana) on private property, will make public spitting and (leaving chewing) gum ... on the sidewalk higher priorities." Hey, the cops don't enforce those things either. Hey, but if there are more cops on the ground…
