Also on Caltrains' list of things to do is to add fencing to places deemed needing a fence. They are doing this by doing the usual studies and also asking local communities to fill them in on where they think fences should be. A total of $1.5 million dollars is to be spent on building the fencing but right now, the fence still seems to be a ways off from happening. They are also trying to step up non-tresspasssing enforcement and extra signage.

Of course, there are some out there who think the whole Caltrain fatality thing is more Darwin than anything else. After all, avoiding a rushing train with all of it's attendant clanging and rumbling should be fairly easy to do. But that's what government does-- try and keep dumb people from doing dumb things. This then would definately go a long ways to helping that cause.
