They should really have more shows in art galleries -- as we walked into the Lab on Sunday night for the Mission Creek Music Fest ambient noise show Sunday night show, we saw not only a band setting up, but also a meticulously-obsessive installation by artist/medical student Anli Liu, memorializing all the patients she's seen at SF General. Meanwhile, in the back room, we had a sparkling grapefruit juice (Izze Juice -- remember that name!) while we waited for the bands to set up -- so civilized.
Unfortunately, no one ever introduced themselves, so we can't tell you who was who, but we were greeted with a blast of feedback from a bunch of keyboards and mixers with trippy visual images behind, while in the back of the room, another band noodled away on the guitar, loop machine, and drums, with video scenes of 16th Street playing behind them. At the same time, the Lab also turned the section of Capp Street behind the Walgreens on 16th into an art/noise exhibition of decent-volume-for-areas-zoned-for-residential music and mysterious art stills projected on the side of the City Club bar. Attendees were encouraged to wander around and see everything at once.
We really wish someone had introduced the bands -- but we can tell you that the bands were named NBC, Deletist, Soundshack, Null Space, and Illuminated Corridor (though Illuminated Corridor we think was the Capp Street installation.). But we're all for more art/rock collaborations in the future. More Izze juice, please!
