Our friends at the Asian Art Museum continue their tradition of cool events with this Thursday's 7pm performance by Butoh legends Koichi and Hiroko Tamano and their dance company, Harupin-Ha.
Credited for bringing butoh (also known as the "dance of darkness") into the mainstream United States, Koichi and Hiroko Tamano "developed their own dance methods blending elements of Tokyo and Berkeley with the cosmos."
Following the performance, there will be a reception with the artists to celebrate Artistic Director Koichi Tamano's 60th birthday. So, go for the improvised avant-garde Japanese dance, and stay for the party. The performance is free with museum admission.
