Boy, nothing happens right before the holidays, huh? But nonetheless, we're pleased to report that someone is now claiming that she found the heirloom ring that a See's Candies worker lost in a bag of chocolates she was preparing. Now, we all know about finger-related hoaxes down in the South Bay (what is it with San Jose and the digits?), but Thea Sawyer claims she found the ring yesterday in the bottom of the plastic bag she was carrying her candy home in, and will return it to the See's store today.
Ms. Sawyer gets as a token of her generosity a $2500 ring from the jewelers Helzberg Diamonds, which offered the new ring as a reward to encourage the finder to, you know, give the old one back. , we thought positively. What a marketing ploy!, we thought cynically. It's even better -- turns out we should've been thinking corporate synergistically -- turns out Helzberg Diamonds is owned by the same company that owns Sees. Well, it's still nice, we think philosophically.
