What works well in Japan sometimes doesn't exactly translate over here. "Zatch Bell" passed its hundred-episode mark overseas, but it's made a much more modest splash stateside. The story concerns a race of childlike demons who've entered our dimension to battle for leadership of their world, which they do by allying themselves with humans who serve as the demons' coaches. It's meets Children of the Corn. And gee whiz, would you believe it's also a video game, not to mention a line of sleepwear and underpants. You can almost hear the dollar signs cha-chinging up in the eyes of the marketing department.
