Lying comfortably in bed, watching the KRON Morning News, we burrowed deeper into the covers at their piece on the mad crush of people at Walmart in Oakland. When we see a crowd in the rainy dark, we expect the story to be about yet another natural disaster, and were relieved (well, kind of) to see that it was just people trying to get 400 buck laptops.
It's so weird -- it's not like we ordinarily spend our days off shopping, but we, too, feel a compulsion to buy buy today. "What if we're missing some awesome deal?" whispers a voice in our head. But we're standing firm and avoiding all major commerce today, not out of any enlightened politics as much as because it seems like a major pain in the ass to be out in the crowds.
And that's where you come in! Dear readers, please let us live through you, by letting us know your shopping experiences this weekend in the comments. Was it good, bad, or ugly in Union Square? Is there blood in the aisles at Target? Were the awesome deals at Walmart worth arriving at 7 p.m. the night previous (as many shoppers apparently did)? We'd love to hear about how you fared (big savings or insane expenditure), what the crowds are like, and any Thanksgiving weekend tips or hints you might have for us. Comment away!
