Admirers of non-traditionally attractive animals mourn the recent passing of Sam, 3 time winner of the World’s Ugliest Dog title at the Sonoma-Marin fair.

We had been worried about Sam since hearing about his recent health problems, and are so sorry to hear of his passing.

A rescue dog adopted by guardian Susie Lockheed 6 years ago, Sam was striking enough to gain international exposure on TV, radio, print, and web. Sam was credited by many in the animal resuce community for opening the minds of adopters to possibilities beyond the "cuteness" of the usual puppy or kitten. He will be missed by all.
