For those who, like SFist, are Cat on a Hot Tin Roof virgins, the play is a laugh-filled, light-hearted family romp about an imploding, highly dysfunctional marriage set against the backdrop of an imploding, highly dysfunctional family. The catalyst for all this is the sickness and impending death of the father, Big Daddy, something revealed on the occasion of his 65th birthday. The knowledge that Big Daddys is no longer long for the world causes the barely functional family to drop their polite pretense and openly scheme over the family estate. Needless to say, truths are revealed, secrets uncovered, and people stop being polite and start getting real. We would say it's your standard garden-variety family drama if it weren't for the fact that there would be no standard garden variety family drama if it weren't for Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.
