While of course most folks probably kind of wanted BART workers to strike on Friday (four day weekend!), the union has tentatively set the date of a strike (video here) for midnight on Wednesday, July 6th. The union's contract expires on Thursday, and word is that the two sides are still pretty far apart. Might be time to start thinking about the casual carpool option, though the ferries serve booze.

In other collective action news, the actual fishermen who dock at the Fisherman's Wharf may move out because the Port of San Francisco wants to raise the monthly rent at the berths from one dollar a foot to five dollars a foot, citing an operating loss of $365,000 a year. Fishermen complain that the facilities offer few amenities, and the low rent is what keeps them there. SFist wonders if they'd have to rename it "Tchotchke Salesman's Wharf?"
