We were reminded recently how much we love the Pixies while at Trannyshack. The weekly show at The Stud happened to be dedicated to the group, much to our surprise. Imagine a bloody headed drag queen singing "Where Is My Mind?" and you've got the idea.

The group was formed in Boston in 1986 when Charles Thompson dropped out of college. He convinced his friend & roommate, Joey Santiago, to drop out too. They recruited bassist Kim Deal and drummer David Lovering to join their group. Charles took on the stage name of Black Francis, and the Pixies named themselves after flipping through the dictionary. They quickly earned a following with their melodies. In 1988, the Pixies released their first full-length album , on 4AD. The album was a big hit with college radio. They followed up with Doolittle, spawning hits such as "Debaser", 'Wave of Mutilation", and "Here Comes Your Man". The group released two more albums, Bossanova and Trompe Le Monde before breaking up in 1993.

Well, the Pixies have reunited, and are in town for three weekend shows at UC Berkeley's Greek Theatre. The Friday and Saturday nights shows are sold out. Tickets do remain for the Sunday afternoon show, and are available through Ticketmaster. Have fun everyone!
