Those of you who look down when you walk may have seen the sidewalk graffiti for www.indyvoter.org. Indyvoter.org is encouraging younger people who previously haven't voted to actually get to the polls on November 2, through their other group, The League of Pissed Off Voters. (Check out their awesome logo of Lady Liberty with a baseball bat.) While the website and the group have a stated nonpartisan purpose, and are focusing on traditional Get Out The Vote (GOTV) efforts for younger voters (18-35) with a strong progressive edge, the group is tilting strongly pro-Kerry, at least for this election. And, well, they did also put out the book .
In that vein, the local chapter of the League is sponsoring an event called 40 Parties in 40 Nights, to keep awareness about the election high in the upcoming few weeks. Party number 1 will be on Sunday the 26th, at Kelly's Mission Rock, and the musical entertainment includes reggae band The People, and DJs Deepcee and Danielle, plus "special guests." No one will be turned away for lack of funds, but they're suggesting a donation of $10-20, which will be used to fund the League's road trips to Reno to lobby undecided Nevada voters. And hey, no sweat if you miss this one -- there's 39 more to go. It doesn't look like there's too much information online about the upcoming events, but you can find some here.
