Finally. And our sources sent SFist a copy of the claim! (We'll try to get that up for you shortly.)

In addition to rightfully accusing San Francisco for for Tatiana's fatal mauling spree last December, which also sent the brothers to the hospital for several days, Geragos' firm also claims that the brothers "have been defamed by a public relations firm, acting as an agent of the city and county of San Francisco and the San Francisco Zoo. Members of the public relations firm, including but not limited to Sam Singer, made false statement's about Claimant's on the date of the attack."

Oh, and one of the brother is also whining that he was "wrongfully deprived" of his 2002 BMW M3, which was impounded. The poor dear.

In related news: OH MY GOD, Amritpal Dhaliwal, 19, was arrested last night at the Bayfair Center trying to shoplift a pair of Nintendo Wii controllers from Target. (His scars are still visible on his forehead, according to police. Aw.) Hope this doesn't hurt their credibility, or lack thereof, when their claim turns into a lawsuit and heads to court.

It seems, according to the Chron, that Zuluaga was busted for throwing acorns at Mashaki, a black rhino:

Police said they were summoned to the zoo at 3:30 p.m. Thursday after a patron reported to officials that Zuluaga was picking acorns off a branch and tossing them at the black rhino, a male named Mashaki. Zuluaga was with another man, who was not cited.

Jesus Christ. Someone explain to us the thought process behind going to the zoo to actively annoying aggressive animals. You know, animals that could kill you? Sure, we used to burn tons of ants with lighter fluid and a Bic as a kid -- who didn't? -- but this stupefies us. The animals at the zoo don't need your shit, people. Back off.

Anyway, according to SF Zoo spokesperson Lora LaMarca, "[h]e tried whistling at (the animal), then grabbed a branch and took acorns off it," which he then tossed at the animal. Zuluaga was cited and then released following the incident.
Ing.

An eyewitness has stepped forward, giving her account of what she supposedly saw on Christmas Day at the SF Zoo. Jennifer Miller, who visited the now infamous park with her husband and two small children, tells the Chronicle what she claims to have seen, just before the Tatiana mauled Carlos Sousa Jr. to death and injured Paul Dhaliwal and Kulbir Dhaliwal.

"The boys, especially the older one, were roaring at them. He was taunting them," the San Francisco woman said. "They were trying to get that lion's attention. ... The lion was bristling, so I just said, 'Come on, let's get out of here' because my kids were disturbed by it."

Miller also says that she recognized Sousa from his photograph, saying that he took no part in the rumored taunting that led to the tiger jumping out of her pen.

"He wasn't roaring. He wasn't taunting them," she recalled. "He kept looking at me apologetically like, 'I'm sorry, I know we are being stupid.' "

The boys' attorney, the Inside Edition-ready Mark Geragos, claims that Miller is stupid stinky pants lair face. He goes on to say that what the SF Zoo is doing is "a calculated attack on these victims ... when in actuality the zoo security didn't do what they should have been doing after the attack."

Tiger Taunting?

According to the Chronicle, SFPD are looking into whether or not one of the victims of SF Zoo tiger attacks "climbed over a waist-high fence and then dangled a leg or other body part over the...

misc

fatal

Manuel Mollinedo

moat

sf

sf zoo

sfpd

tatiana

taunting

tiger

Brock Keeling

According to the Chronicle, SFPD are looking into whether or not one of the victims of SF Zoo tiger attacks "climbed over a waist-high fence and then dangled a leg or other body part over the edge of a moat that kept the big cat away from the public." With evidence of a shoe and some blood found in the area between the gate and the edge of the 25- to 30-foot-wide moat, as well as "pinecones and sticks that were found in the moat might have been thrown at the animal," zoo officials argue that Tatiana could have been provoked. Which? If that's the case, wasn't all too bright.

Zoo director Manuel Mollinedo tells the Chronicle that "[s]omebody created a situation that really agitated her and gave her some sort of a method to break out ... there is no possible way the cat could have made it out of there in a single leap. I would surmise that there was help ... a couple of feet dangling over the edge could possibly have done it."

Not sure why anyone in their right minds would climb over a "waist-high fence and dangle" themselves over the edge of the moat, but this is one argument that's being looked into now.
