Tiger Attack Update: Slingshots, Vodka, and Michael Jackson's Lawyer

slingshot%20boy.jpg

The Dhaliwal brothers, they seem like a couple of nasty little rapscallions. Ruffians, we'll go so far as to say. Why? Because after last week's Christmastime big-cat attack - a mauling that took the life of their "friend," Carlos Sousa Jr. - it seems that at the two brothers "had slingshots on them at the time" - well, at least according to "sources" at the New York Post. (Seriously, aside from aspiring serial killers, who does this? Who goes to a zoo to aggressively taunt the animals? This behavior goes well above and beyond the reliable boys-will-be-boys excuse.)

In addition to the mini catapult, an "empty vodka bottle was also found in a car used by Amritpal Dhaliwal" the Post goes on to say. (What, no Ranch Dressing?)

But have no fear, the Dhaliwals landed themselves Mark Geragos, the same media slut attorney who defended Michael Jackson, Winona Ryder, Gary Condit, and the dreamy Scott Peterson. Regarding the rumored taunting, Geragos hyperbolically told the Chronicle that "'as far as [he was] concerned, that's an urban legend ... there was no taunting of the tiger.'"

And with that, we're off. Come on, a media circus involving actual animals? This is going to get interesting.

Geragos is a professional loser, and his job is to stave off the lynching and turn it into probation. That all the talk is about the boys' civil case against the zoo is just ballyhoo, the real issue is the Souza death and who will be held responsible for it.

it's great to know who exactly to hire for my defense if i ever kill my wife, kill my intern i'm sleeping with, molest my kids, kill an exotic animal at a zoo or shoplift like there's no tomorrow.

And a Happy New Year to you, as well. I can only assume (hope?) that this story is a bad attempt at hangover humour.

The New York Post is a rag at best and the slingshot story has not been substantiated by anyone. Surely, the zoo's spokesman, Mr. Singer [sic], would be spreading this rumour everywhere, if there were even a grain of truth. However, he is busy spreading the "news" that there was an empty vodka bottle in the perps' car. Not that there was any drinking by the young men while they were at the zoo. You have to exit the zoo to get to the parking lot.

California has strict liability laws for owners of dangerous animals, and the zoo is apparently trying to show contributory negligence on the brothers' part.

The choice of Geragos as an attorney is theirs to make. Geragos is a publicity seeker and hasn't done too well by some of his clients, at least one of whom is now on death row. But, choosing a criminal lawyer instead of a civil liability lawyer isn't the same as admitting to being a criminal.

The media circus will be the best story since Anna Ayala and Larry Craig. I can't wait for more.

"The New York Post is a rag at best."

No kidding. I imagine most of our readers already know this. But thank you for explaining the obvious.

I'm betting Garados is doing this thing for free, in exchange, he'd get a cool million back for doing very little and it'll be settled out of court (instead of the wasted hours in court on Peterson).

Why would ANYONE hire Mark Geragos? He is the worst criminal defense attorney on planet Earth. He lost the Winona Ryder case, he lost the Scott Peterson case, he was fired by Michael Jackson, and Gary Condit has been banished to post-electoral obscurity. The guy's a hack job! Akit is onto something - he's probably working for free.

Your so-called source, The "New York Post," is a well -known rumor mongering gossip rag that makes crap up with zero proof, like the National Enquirer or the World Weekly News. Not one other news source says a damn thing about slingshots OR vodka. The Post doesn't cite where they got the supposed inside "info"-- which, as is usual for them, shows they likely invented the shockingly juicy tidbit just to pull readers in & to create more scandal. Did you make a simple jouranalistic mistake here, or are you now sinking to their level? I hope Mark Geragos sues EVERYONE who prints such slanderous, libelous, hurtful, unproven, made up, mudslinging garbage, including you.

this is my favorite quote:

Sam Singer, a newly hired spokesman for the zoo, said Tuesday that it was "highly unusual that (Geragos) is the only person who has the facts, when the San Francisco Police Department hasn't even completed its investigation."

"Anything that a defense attorney says has to be taken with not a pinch of salt, but a ton of salt," Singer said.

in other words, geragos is an ass clown as we all know

One problem with suing for defamation is that truth is a defense. That's the first problem. There are others.

I actually heard about the slingshot story on the morning news on TV - not sure what channel I was watching though....

It's pronounced Grrrrragos.

If they're contemplating a civil suit why hire a criminal DEFENSE lawyer?

Maybe the Dhaliwhatevers need to be shipped off to somewhere where tigers roam free, and they can engage in their lying bullshit out in the wild and see how long that lasts them. I say screw 'em, and screw the private company running the zoo for us taxpayers, and let 'em all STFU!

Meanwhile, Mollindo is now saying that Tatiana was taunted without going into detail. He was definitely Geragoaded into it.

Geragos is both a civil and criminal lawyer. In fact, he first made a name for himself with class action lawsuits on behalf of victims of the 1915 Armenian genocide. Check out his website. He's a real piece of work. He brags of being “one of only two lawyers ever named Lawyer of the year in both the Criminal and Civil arenas. (Johnnie Cochran was the other)."

Also, Winona Ryder has never won an Academy award.

Unfortunately this case seems like it's going to be a flippin media circus and the trial will have to be moved to some backwater town where a bunch of simpletons will be conned in to believing whatever story Geragos tells them since he's 'been on tv'. God, I can't wait to move out of this retarded city.

This is leaning towards being the Yale Glee Club versus Sacred Heart HS story for 2008. A month of almost daily new tidbits and then blink! It's gone.

What's a "laywer?"

Tatiana bravely gave her life in the swift removal of a retard from the human gene pool. It's unfortunate that she was not able to finish off the other 2 village idiots prior to being taken out by San Fran's finest.

RIP Tatiana...

I'm sure each brother is wishing the other had died so he could ask for more money in the upcoming settlement.

rowr!
