Tiger Taunting?

Pooh%20%26%20Tigger%20Playing%203017.jpg

According to the Chronicle, SFPD are looking into whether or not one of the victims of SF Zoo tiger attacks "climbed over a waist-high fence and then dangled a leg or other body part over the edge of a moat that kept the big cat away from the public." With evidence of a shoe and some blood found in the area between the gate and the edge of the 25- to 30-foot-wide moat, as well as "pinecones and sticks that were found in the moat might have been thrown at the animal," zoo officials argue that Tatiana could have been provoked. Which? If that's the case, wasn't all too bright.

Zoo director Manuel Mollinedo tells the Chronicle that "[s]omebody created a situation that really agitated her and gave her some sort of a method to break out ... there is no possible way the cat could have made it out of there in a single leap. I would surmise that there was help ... a couple of feet dangling over the edge could possibly have done it."

Not sure why anyone in their right minds would climb over a "waist-high fence and dangle" themselves over the edge of the moat, but this is one argument that's being looked into now.

"Dudes, let's go to Hobson's Choice and pick up chicks!"

"Fuck that, man! Let's go to the zoo and taunt vicious animals! Woo! WOOO!"

What I don't understand is what three 17-year-olds were doing at the freekin' zoo when there were tires to slash, radios to be stolen, car windows to smash, etc.

Oh and I know you didn't just go and retire the "Tatiana" tag on me...

I wonder what suspended supervisor Ed Jew thinks? Oh wait, his lawyer won't let him talk.

the problem is that kids today grew up with 'calvin and hobbes,' which has taught them that taunting and wrestling tigers is innocent fun.

So wait, the idea in this story is that the tiger climbed up a person?

Manys: Yes. Latched onto a leg and used it to climb over, after which she dragged him to the cafe (?) to kill him? No idea how that works.

Another thing I don't get is why these cages -- I mean, *enclosures* -- aren't built more taunt-proof.

how do i nominate these fucktards for the darwin award winner? they so deserve it. i only wish that she killed all three of them, aspiring dj's that they were, before she was unjustifiably put down.

If this is true, it serves those little bastards right.

I think it's highly likely they were taunting it, particularly in light of the fact that after fataling mauling the first kid, it went past other people/animals, etc., to specifically seek out the other two.

And the father's comments that throwing rocks and tormenting the animal are a-okay certainly doesn't up my sympathy level at all. Talk about bad parenting coming back to bite your/your kid's ass.

bluecanary - You took the words right out of my mouth. I was so angry after watching the dad on KTVU this morning. His "they can do whatever they want [to the tiger]" really unnerved me.

Tatiana was one smart cookie. She only attacked those who (probably) attacked her.

how many laws did they break when they taunted the endangered species, trespassed, contributed to the killing of the animal, etc. kamala harris should go after them all, big time. put these kids in jail to teach them the first consequence their parents never did and head off any ridiculous wrongful death lawsuits.

I agree, suckafree. But considering Kamala's difficulties in going after humans who kill other humans, I'm not sure how she'd fare when a tiger is involved.

The Chronicle is now reporting that Mollinedo has denied making that statement about the animal being provoked.

Also the same article reports that the tiger grotto wall at the SF Zoo is four feet lower than the standards recommended by national big cat experts.

I still want to know what happens to her fur...

From what I heard, she killed the guy and at the same time wounded the other two wounding them until they ran away. She followed their blood to find them.

She was doing what cats are programed to do- kill the mice she caught.

too bad that tigers are critically endangered and stupid people aren't.

too bad that tigers are critically endangered and stupid people aren't. doesn't that seem ironic?

Are the two surviving sickos that attacked a rare endangered animal with high power sling shots going to be charged with bringing dangerous weapons into the zoo, trespassing, or animal cruelty? They caused the death of their friend. Very sad that Souza, and that poor animal died as a result of their cruelty. The police shot the wrong one.

Or maybe, just maybe Guillermo, a certain zoo director is being less than completely honest.
