• The SFPD is mourning the loss of one of their own, nine-year veteran of the department Luciano Ortega, who died suddenly and unexpectedly Sunday at age 29. Ortega reportedly collapsed while playing rugby, which he did every Sunday. [KTVU]
  • A 34-year-old Alameda County man, Joel Gonzalez, has been charged with multiple felonies and could face 20 years to life in prison after a July 24 incident in which he allegedly struck a sheriff's deputy with a stolen vehicle. Gonzalez and another suspect were allegedly driving stolen cars in the Ashland area near San Leandro, and the collision with the deputy occurred after the deputy had deployed a spike strip, and he was thrown 20 feet.
