Two men from Oakland, ages 18 and 21, were located and arrested by the Oakland Police Department on Monday in connection with a shooting that occurred on Market Street between Sixth and Seventh Street in the midst of the evening rush hour last Tuesday.
21-year-old Elijah Ernest, a parolee with a warrant out for his arrest, and 18-year-old Lerron Simpson were taken into custody, and will both be booked in San Francisco County jail on attempted murder and multiple other charges as KRON 4 reports. A firearm was found with one of the suspects.
A third suspect, a juvenile, has been identified but not arrested, according to the Chronicle.
Shocking footage from a bystander of the brazen August 20 shooting — first obtained by KTVU — can be seen below, as one suspect fires shots across Market Street, endangering countless passersby, Muni buses, and vehicles. The incident allegedly began with a fight on the north side of Market Street, and the suspects ran across the street and toward Sixth, with one shooting back across the street.
As the Examiner reported last week, the shooting injured one male victim, age 25, who was transported to the hospital and treated for non-life-threatening wounds. At the time he was not cooperating with investigators, but that may have changed in the ensuing days.
It appears there were many witnesses to the incident, and police are still seeking information, which can be given anonymously at 415-575-4444.
