Another Planet Entertainment just announced late Wednesday that the great Paul Simon will do a "pop-up" concert on August 9 at Oakland's Fox Theater ahead of his Sunday, August 11 appearance at Outside Lands.

Tickets went on sale this morning at 10 a.m. for Outside Lands ticket holders only — those ticket holders who were either a) only planning to go to the fest on Saturday on Sunday, or b) would happily forgo being in Golden Gate Park on Friday evening in order to see Simon in a more intimate setting.

Simon has said he's retired from touring and performing, and will only be doing shows for causes that he's passionate about from here on out. His appearance at Outside Lands, announced in March, will be his first ever time performing in Golden Gate Park, and he's donating the proceeds of his appearance to the San Francisco Parks Alliance and Friends of the Urban Forest.

Simon said in a statement that he was "pleased to be playing in San Francisco with its well-deserved reputation for being in the forefront of environmental issues. I’m grateful for the opportunity to be of service to this vital cause."

Simon is expected to perform a range of material from his 55+-year career, and presumably the sets on Friday and Sunday will be similar in scope and length, though who knows. Performing at the 2,800-person-capacity Fox is certainly going to be far different than performing for 80,000 or more people at the polo field in Golden Gate Park.

Find tickets here for the Fox show, available now if you already have an Outside Lands ticket, or available Friday at 10 a.m. if you do not.
