- An animal shelter in Oakland has been hit with an epidemic of canine flu, infecting at least 55 dogs. It's kind of like human influenza, and lasts about two weeks, with about 20 percent of dogs susceptible to getting pneumonia. [Bay City News]

- Sacramento police are defending themselves against criticism that it took them too long to rescue fatally wounded officer Tara O'Sullivan. Body camera footage was released late Friday, and officers say O'Sullivan had no chance of surviving her wounds. [Associated Press]
