Another stalwart bites the dust this week as Blowfish Sushi to Die For shutters its longtime home at Bryant and 20th Streets.
Blowfish Sushi has been a go-to for many a Missionite going back to the pre-dot-com-boom days, and it remained a fun and casual place to down some sake and a few maki rolls. The restaurant underwent a mid-2018 remodel in an apparent effort to drum up fresh business, but clearly to no avail.
The original location location opened in the Mission in 1996 under chef Ritsuo Tsuchida, and the place expanded in the ensuing years with location on Santana Row in San Jose and in West Hollywood — both of which have long since closed.
The team expanded in SF with Iza Ramen in the Lower Haight and SoMa, and Hell's Ramen at Mission and 18th, and it seems the ramen businesses are all that will remain.
As Eater reports, while the restaurant's website remains live, a note posted at the Bryant Street location thanks the restaurant's loyal customers but confirms the permanent closure.
That's one more restaurant space up for grabs...
