A stabbing behind a San Francisco shopping complex marks San Francisco's 49th homicide for 2017, already taking the city's annual count past those of some recent years.
According to the San Francisco Police Department, the fatal stabbing occurred near the crossing of Hampshire and Alameda Streets, the intersection of two alleys behind the Potrero Center and near Division Street.
The San Francisco Medical Examiner's Office tells SFist that the victim has been identified as 52-year-old Demetrius Moore, who did not have a known address.
Police say they found Moore suffering from multiple stab wounds at 1:53 a.m. on Saturday. He was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
As of publication time, the SFPD did not have any additional information on the circumstances of the slaying or any possible suspects, saying only that no arrests had been made.
Moore's death marks the city's 49th homicide for the year, and SFPD spokesperson confirms to SFist, following a shooting at the Sunnydale public housing project last Tuesday. In 2016, SF ended with 59 homicides, there were 53 in 2015, 45 in 2014, 48 in 2013, 68 in 2012, and 50 in 2011.
