Following some teasers, we now have the full lineup for Hardly Strictly Bluegrass 2017, and it features a bunch of festival regulars as well as some surprises. In the former column we have Emmylou Harris, Gillian Welch, Lucinda Williams, Steve Earle, Buddy Miller, T Bone Burnett, and Conor Oberst, who returns this year to curate the Rooster Stage. In the latter camp we have 70s/80s rockers Cheap Trick, who were just inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year, and have put out two recent albums in addition to touring with the likes of Boston and Peter Frampton. NoLa's bounce queen Big Freedia returns to perform after her recent annual appearance at Outside Lands, and singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile (whom you may have caught at Outside Lands in 2016) will be doing a set on Friday.
Also in the mix this year: Henry Rollins, Randy Newman, John Prine, Billy Bragg, Robyn Hitchcock, Béla Fleck, Will Durst, and Dead Kennedys frontman Jello Biafra.
The free annual festival draws as many as a half million people to Golden Gate Park, making it one of the biggest live music events in the country, as the Chronicle notes.
The music starts at noon on Friday, October 6, and goes until 7 p.m., with sets beginning at 11 a.m. and ending at 7 on Saturday and Sunday. Check back here the week of for set times and such.
