A driver who allegedly killed a pedestrian as he sped from an argument has been arrested, San Francisco police said Wednesday, and faces both felony and misdemeanor counts in the case.
Bay City News reported last week that 37-year-old SF resident Xiuwei Liu was fatally struck at 7:02 p.m. on Tuesday, August 1 in the area of Harney Way and Executive Park Boulevard.
According to a press release sent by the San Francsico Police Department, Liu "was jogging on the sidewalk" when she was struck by the driver, who they identify as 21-year-old San Bruno resident Devon Radel. She died at the scene.
Police say that Radel "stayed at the scene until police and paramedics arrived" then "was transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries sustained from the collision."
Wednesday Officer Grace Gatpandan told Bay City News that Radel "had been in an argument with someone else nearby, then got into his vehicle and sped away," striking Liu as he did so. On Thursday, police say today, he "was booked at San Francisco County Jail on one felony count of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and one misdemeanor count of reckless driving."
Police say that though Radel was arrested, investigators are asking anyone with information on this case to contact the San Francisco Police Department's tip line at (415) 575-4444 or text-a-tip to TIP411 and begin the text message with SFPD.
