If you're headed to Outside Lands, it's now time to strategize. The full complement of set times just went online today, and now you have a lot of decisions to make.
The first big acts go on a week from Friday starting around 5 with Sleighbells and Belle & Sebastian. But if you want to see Belle & Sebastian, you're going to have to race about 30 minutes into their set if you want to see A Tribe Called Quest, who will be at the main stage starting at 6:15. They overlap just slightly with Fleet Foxes, who'll be back on the stage Belle & Seb were on starting at 7:10, and you're basically out of luck if you're trying to see Fleet Foxes and Future Islands, because they overlap.
As always, Outside Lands is not a festival that rewards people with varied tastes. It frustrates them.
The schedule for Saturday is slightly less packed, but if you want to see all of Metallica's set, which starts at 8, you'll be missing Empire of the Sun, who are doing an hour set that starts at 9 at the opposite end of the fairgrounds.
But here's an interesting switchup: I predicted that Lorde would be programmed on Sunday opposite The Who, on different stages, but no! Lorde actually gets the main stage slot opening for The Who. It's Solange who'll be on the parallel Sutro Stage in the second half of The Who's set, and the final competing slot on the Twin Peaks stage is Above & Beyond.
Check out the whole thing here, and as always, the Outside Lands app lets you create your own custom schedule.
