"He'd steal the glasses from your face" is a phrase my late grandmother used to employ describe some especially unpleasant residents of her hardscrabble Wyoming town. But now I have a chance to use Grandma's words in the literal sense, to tell you about a crime that went down in San Francisco on Monday afternoon.
Police say that the spectacle spectacle went down at 4:59 p.m. Monday, at the intersection of Fifth and Mission Streets (for a handy landmark, this is the intersection at which the SF Chronicle, the old SF Mint, and the Metreon parking garage meet).
According to the San Francisco Police Department, a 50-year-old woman was standing on the sidewalk when a man who appeared to be in his 60s walked up to her and "pulled [the] glasses off her face, and fled," purloined specs in hand.
The victim wasn't injured in the assault, police say. The suspect remains at large as of publication time, and the SFPD confirms that no arrests have been made in the case.
