Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is the star of a new commercial for Siri and the iPhone 7 called "The Rock x Siri Dominate the Day," and it's all about how insanely busy the fictional Rock's life is. CNet has weighed in and called it... "rocky."
In the midst of a film shoot, Johnson gets a Lyft to the airport, flies to Rome, then gets to Asia somehow, cooks alongside Ludo Lefebvre, goes to outer space, takes a selfie in outer space, and somehow returns to set in time to deliver his big line.
Johnson referred to the almost-four-minute ad as a "movie" on Twitter Sunday, saying it would be "the biggest, coolest, sexiest, funnest (is that a word?) movie ever."
But it's just an ad, not a movie, and it appears to be Apple's attempt to get some renewed attention for their voice-enabled assistant, even though, as CNet points out, "it's a better ad for The Rock... than for Siri."
As Ad Week says, "the best bit of the spot is a throwaway shot of Johnson’s phone where you see the background is the internet’s favorite Rock portrait, a shot of himself wearing a turtleneck, fanny pack and chain in the ’90s." It's something he recently spoofed himself in promoting an appearance on SNL.
