Two people were killed in San Francisco this weekend, both the victims of fatal shootings.
According to the San Francisco Police Department, the first slaying was reported at 3:40 p.m. Saturday, near the intersection of Keith Street and Palou Avenue.
Police say that when they arrived, they discovered an 18-year-old male victim of a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on arrival, and was later identified by the San Francisco Medical Examiner's Office as SF resident Marshawn Byrd.
Citing the ongoing investigation, the SFPD declined to provide additional information on Byrd's shooting. They did confirm, however, that no arrests have been made in the case.
Police say that the weekend's second homicide occurred at 7:53 a.m. Sunday, at the Twin Peaks View Point at the top of Twin Peaks. The victim, a 71-year-old man, was shot at the popular tourist venue, police say. He, too, was pronounced dead on arrival.
As of publication time, the shooting victim has not been publicly identified, nor was additional information available in the case. SFist commenter "Snutchers" says that the victim "was my neighbor/friend and long time resident."
The man "was killed for his camera equipment," Snutchers writes, saying that "Knowing him, he probably put up a struggle."
The SFPD could not confirm those details at publication time, but did say that no arrests have been made.
These deaths follow San Francisco's 34th homicide for 2017, a fatal shooting at 24th and Mission Streets on July 10. The victim in that case, which is also notable as a sink was thrown at a patrol car during its investigation, was identified as 35-year-old San Francisco resident Jesus Sandoval. As of publication time, no suspects have been identified in Sandoval's slaying.
