It's a big big travel weekend, and an extra-long one for everyone who's getting/taking Monday off. KRON 4 reporter Will Tran was up at 4:45 this morning documenting the already hectic scene at Oakland Airport, shown above. That airport alone is expecting 250,000 air passengers to pass through over the six-day holiday period.
And AAA is estimating that some 44 million Americans will be hitting the roads or skies (or rails) this holiday weekend, breaking some sort of previous record.
Meanwhile, complicating things at SFO is the rollout of the revised travel ban for travelers from six Muslim-majority countries, which took effect Thursday evening. So far there have not been reports of the kind of large-scale protests that greeted the initial executive order related to immigration and travel in January, but civil rights attorneys have set up a "pop-up" legal clinic at SFO to aid any confused or mistreated foreigners.
In other news of unfortunate assignments for KRON 4's Will Tran, he'll be at the Alameda County Fair this weekend. "Watch me try competitive eating... again!" he tweets.
