After several days of trying, Caltrans crews succeeded in knocking the condemned Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge into the canyon on Saturday. Two thirds of it anyway.
As CBS 5 reports, most of the bridge collapsed after two fractured columns were knocked down, five days after a wrecking ball failed to do the job.
The video above shows the dramatic moment we've all been waiting for.
As discussed last week, it's expected to take nine to twelve months to construct a replacement bridge, and until then, the southern half of Big Sur can only be accessed via San Luis Obispo and Highway 1 will not be passable in this section.
