San Francisco-based woodworker and artist Katie Gong, of Katie Gong Design, is the subject of Episode 7 of People Magazine's new American Doers series, hosted by very handsome Brit James Marshall. Gong grew up running around her dad's woodshop, and she says, "My whole family my grandfather, my father we all worked in wood."
And even though many might think of woodworking as a man's profession, she says, "When I was growing up, I never thought about masculine or feminine job roles."
As you can see, too, she can handle power tools with a whole lot more skill and ease than host James Marshall.
Gong explains that she and her boyfriend recently signed a ten-year lease on a 4,000-square-foot studio space in San Francisco and they hope to be able to sub-lease space to other local makers and help them stay in this ever-more-expensive city.
