Faithful attendees of Treasure Island Music Festival expecting views of San Francisco's skyline might be disappointed to learn that this year, when acts like Sigur Rós, Ice Cube, and Sylvan Esso take the stage, it won't be on the Great Lawn at the island's western edge, as it has been every year. Instead, the stage next month will be set on Treasure Island's eastern shore, as organizers revealed this morning, granting views of Oakland's skyline and the eastern span of the Bay Bridge. Fear not, fans of the annual Ferris wheel: That along with the silent disco will be set up along the eastern pier. Appropriate.
The 10th Treasure Island Music Festival this October will be the last held on the island, as was announced in June, owing to the massive redevelopment project that's already underway and includes the demolition of old structures and the addition of 8,000 units at an estimated $6 billion cost. Today, festival organizers Noise Pop and Another Planet Entertainment, followed up with news of the smaller-scale location change, which is also due to the construction begun in March. They won't be announcing the location for next year's festivities just yet.
"Since the inception of the festival in 2007, we’ve been aware that some day we’d have to move off the island,” says festival co-founder Jordan Kurland. “We’ll be relocating and evolving this event in 2017, but at its core, it will stay the same: an intimate and carefully crafted festival experience filled with incredible music performances. For now though, we’re grateful to have one final year on the island to give it a proper goodbye.”
East Bay festival attendees will be grateful to hear that all-day East Bay shuttle service will be running for the first time (better late than never), and VIPs will be happy to learn that they'll now have preferred viewing areas at both festival stages.
You can see the full daily lineup for the festival here. Tickets appear to be available in every category, with daily GA tickets at $105 and 2-day GA passes at $179.
