Police arrested the man they say is responsible for a double-killing and arson in East Oakland this past Monday morning. Fox 2 reports that the suspect works as a truck loader, and he is believed to have had an accomplice in the brutal crime.
Officials say 37-year-old Francisco Jesus Hernandez shot into a truck on August 8, killing Juan Ramos and Alfonso Ibanez Jr. in the Columbia Gardens neighborhood of Oakland. Hernandez and an unknown accomplice are believed to have then pulled a third man, Miguel Cruz, out of the vehicle, and police say the accomplice then shot Cruz. The two men are accused of then placing Cruz back in the truck with Ramos and Ibanez, and setting it on fire.
The Mercury News reports that by the time police had arrived, Cruz had managed to crawl out of the burning vehicle. The paper reports that witnesses identified Hernandez, and that he was taken into custody Monday night at a Hayward gas station.
Hernandez has been charged with two counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, and, notes Fox 2, "special circumstances of murder in the course of an arson."
At this time police will not reveal if they have a motive for the killings. If convicted, Hernandez could face life in prison.
