A cyclist riding near Fisherman's Wharf was seriously injured Tuesday, after a cab driver barreled into a crosswalk and over the bicyclist, police say.
According to the San Francisco Police Department, a 33-year-old man was riding a bicycle across the crosswalk at North Point and Mason Streets when he was struck at 6:14 p.m. Tuesday.
Police say that the cyclist was riding west on North Point when a cab driver headed north on Mason hit him. The bicyclist "was ran over" police say, "and went underneath the taxi cab."
As you can see from the photo above, that intersection is regulated by a traffic signal. A call to police regarding further circumstances of the collision, including which party had the green light, was not returned at publication time.
The cyclist suffered "abrasions on elbow, face, back, and shoulders" and was rushed to an area hospital "in life threatening condition," police say.
The taxi driver, about whom police declined to provide further information, was not arrested.
