[Update] St. Luke's Hospital Entrance Briefly Shut Down By Bomb-Like Device

The area of Cesar Chavez Street around Valencia Street and San Jose Avenue, in the vicinity of St. Luke's Hospital, has been shut down by the SFPD as they investigate a suspicious device.

No further details are available at this time, but the Department of Emergency Management says to avoid the area, and ABC 7 says there is a shelter-in-place warning. Also, the entrance to St. Luke's hospital is closed, so that may be where the device is.

We'll update you if this turns into a real situation.

Update: The situation has been cleared, according to ALERT SF. And it looks like someone made a faux bomb to scare people.

Update 2: Mission Local reports that the faux bomb, which consisted of a bottle of liquid attached to what looked like sticks of dynamite, was found on the loading dock of the Salvation Army near the hospital. The hospital and next-door construction site were both partly evacuated before the bomb squad determined that the device was harmless.
