A 29-year-old man was shot and killed while riding his bike around Oakland's Lake Merritt late Friday night/early Saturday. As the Chronicle reports, Oakland police responded to reports of gunshots at 12:40 a.m. Saturday on the 2000 block of Lakeshore Avenue, between Wayne and Brooklyn Avenues. The victim was transported to a hospital, where he died from his wounds.
CBS 5 identifies him as Ernesto Lora Jr., saying he was riding in the bike lane at the time of the shooting. They say he had just relocated to Oakland from Texas.
No further details about the case are available at this time, however police say robbery does not appear to have been a motive. No suspects have been identified.
