Fisherman's Wharf tourists got a pretty thrilling story to tell the folks back home Wednesday, after a dispute over a street performer's tip jar turned violent.
It all began at around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, at Pier 43, just steps from the Wharf, itself. According to the San Francisco Police Department, a 57-year-old male drummer was performing on the sidewalk, when a 27-year-old woman tried to swipe some cash out of his tip jar.
When the drummer tried to get his hard-earned dough back, the woman hit him "with a skateboard multiple times," the police report for the incident reads.
In self-defense, SFPD says, the busker then "pulled a pipe off his drum set" and hit the woman back.
The drummer suffered a non-life-threatening gash to the forehead in the incident, and was transported to San Francisco General Hospital. The woman was not injured in the brawl, but was nabbed by police shortly thereafter, and was arrested on the spot.
