In an attempt to break a world record for the largest ever faux-lightsaber battle (7,000 people, San Diego ComiCon, 2015), a legion of dorks gathered in a park by the Embarcadero Friday night, in the rain, to wave their lightsabers around.

As KTVU reports, at least one dork brought his own homemade lightsaber that he claimed he found "deep in a cave."

This all went down in Sue Bierman Park, next to Justin Herman Plaza and on the Embarcadero side of Embarcadero Center. It's unclear how many people actually showed up.

For comparison, below is video from the lightsaber battle that happened simultaneously Friday in San Diego. Similar events happened in Los Angeles and Seattle, and I guess organizers were using the total number of participants from all four events to claim the new record — they say they had over 10,000 plastic lightstabers reserved in advance.

Here's a video from the Los Angeles battle, in Pershing Square.
