A situation that began Friday morning at a Planned Parenthood in Colorado Springs involving an active shooter has resulted in at least nine wounded victims. As the Colorado Springs Gazette is reporting, six people are being treated for gunshot wounds at one hospital, with three more at another hospital, and the gunman has barricaded himself in the building, exchanging fire with officers into the afternoon.

As RT reports, police surrounded the area, and one of the injured officers was shot in the hand.

The gunman was reportedly shooting at passing cars, and one officer reported having his rear window shot out when he was trying to "get a look" at the shooter, who is reportedly wearing a "hunting-type hat."

It's unclear if there have been any fatalities, and the total number of victims remains unclear.

A witness near the scene reported hearing between 10 and 20 initial shots within five minutes.

Update: As of 1:43 p.m., the Gazette confirmed with police that the shooter has not been contained, and this remains an active shooter situation. The connection to Planned Parenthood remains unclear, however that is where the initial 911 call came from. The shooter remains barricaded inside with multiple civilians and it is unclear if they are being held hostage.

Update 2: The active shooting scene is ongoing, with officers exchanging fire with the gunman inside the Planned Parenthood facility. Colorado Springs Police and the El Paso County Sheriff's Department are both involved, and they've confirmed that a fourth officer has been injured. Per the Gazette, the shooter apparently has a high-powered rifle and has not made any demands.

Update 3: As of 3:10 p.m. local time, two area hospitals confirmed to the Gazette that they are treating a total of nine shooting victims, presumably including the four previously reported injured officers. Following a news conference, the New York Times reports that the shooter is a white male wearing a trench coat. He is apparently barricaded in a windowless office inside the facility, and the scene remains active.

Update 4: At 5:01 p.m., local time, the mayor of Colorado Springs confirmed that the gunman is in police custody:

Officials told NBC News that the gunman stepped out of the building and was taken into custody by police.

Update 5: There were at least three fatalities, including two civilians, per the New York Times.
