No doubt you marked your calendars for next week, which was reported as the first to download the Muni mobile payment application (for your cell phone). Not so!
Yep, Christmas came early this year, kids. As Akit's Complaint Department notes, the Muni Mobile payment app is live and available for you to use today.
It's also available in the Google Play store for the Android set. So what are you reading this for? Go make some in-app purchases, people.
"This mobile fare payment pilot program is part of our efforts to improve the customer’s experience on the Muni system," SFMTA Director of Transportation Ed Reiskin said in January. "With this new app, riders will be able to buy tickets on their phones anywhere and anytime.”
Here in applandia, it's sort of a head-scratcher as to what took so long with this thing (it was promised this summer). But sometimes, as your mother no doubt told you, Muni isn't there when you want it to be.
And I'd still recommend Routesy if you need an app that works to tell you when buses are coming.
The Muni app was available for a elite group of testers, and the unfavorable reviews are already rolling in.
Just tried the Muni mobile app. I'd rather walk into a Walgreens and top up my Clipper card manually.
