It was Airman 1st Class Spencer Stone, who along with friends from Sacramento Anthony Sadler and Alek Skarlatos, halted an August 21 gunman on a train heading from Belgium to France.
However, as new outlets like ABC 7 and CBS SF are reporting, Stone has not been so lucky in Sacramento. He was stabbed multiple times outside of Badlands, which like Badlands San Francisco is a gay bar, at 21st and K Streets in midtown Sacramento early this morning, but is expected to be fine.
The circumstances seem to be an alcohol-fueled fight, and according to sources, Stone was protecting a friend when he was stabbed. Sacramento PD initially believed that Stone would die.
"A1C Spencer Stone has been transported to a local hospital, and is currently being treated for injury," Air Force spokesman Lt. Col. Christopher Karns said in an email in Air Force Times.
Video of the incident, below, is circulating.
Apparently the police felt it necessary to make the following clear:
Update: The assault incident is not related to a terrorist act. Assault occurred near a bar, alcohol is believed to be a factor.
