Good morning, Bay Area! That's what the Hayward Fault appeared to be saying, as it rocked those of us who were lingering in bed out of it with a 4.0 magnitude quake at 6:49 this morning.

According to the US Geological Survey, the temblor was centered a mile north of Piedmont, 2 miles east-northeast of Emeryville, and 3 miles northeast Oakland and southeast of Berkeley. It had a depth of 3.3 miles.

As of 6:58 a.m., BART was reporting a 10 minute delay systemwide, as they inspect the tracks for quake-caused damage, but by 7:26 they'd given the all-clear. This morning's seismic event comes a little more than a week after an off-shore 3.3 startled San Francisco and Marin, at 1:26 p.m. on Sunday, August 9.

As you can imagine given this morning's quake's location, the strongest responses thus far (at least based on the USGS's Did You Feel It map) were in the East Bay and San Francisco. I certainly felt it in the Outer Sunset — it felt like two quick nudges to the west, in my case. How about you?
