A quick update on that second Lake County wildfire that broke out Sunday, the footprint of which is likely to overlap with the now almost fully contained Rocky Fire. The Jerusalem Fire, which had burned 5,000 acres as of Monday morning, is now up to 12,000 acres, and is zero percent contained.

According to CalFire, "The burning conditions slowed down overnight due to an increase in relative humidity and cooler temperatures," but the fire remains active, and 50 structures are threatened.

There is a mandatory evacuation in place for the Jerusalem Valley area east of Spruce Grove. So far the fires have been kept out of towns and to the east of Clear Lake. The map below shows the current footprint of the Jerusalem and Rocky Fires.

As ABC 7 reports, "The wildfire is being fought aggressively with five air tankers and three helicopters. [And] Some resources from the Rocky Fire have been diverted to this new wildfire."

Much like one of the fire captains dealing with the runaway Rocky Fire said last week, given the ultra-dry conditions of this fire season, "Sadly I think when we're done with this one, we'll be on to the next one." And that "next one" turned out to be immediately to the south.

CalFire is currently estimating the containment date for this one at August 17.

The Jerusalem Fire is one of 18 active fires currently burning in California, which are being fought by 10,000 firefighters.
