The much anticipated spinoff project from the Perbacco/Barbacco team of Staffan Terje and Umberto Gibin finally has a name and an opening timeframe. We first learned about their brasserie plans for the former 'wichcraft space on Mission, behind Bloomingdale's, last November. And now Inside Scoop has the word that they're aiming for a "late fall" (i.e. November/December), and the name will be Volta.
Though they've only been purveyors of Italian cuisine until now, this new project despite the Latin name, which refers to a "turning point" in poetry or music will be more French-centric.
The menu will feature French bistro classics "presented in a modern way," according to Gibin, and there may be some pasta thrown in as well, along with the Scandanavian open-faced sandwiches known as smorrebrod at lunch.
Obviously this is going to be a far more upscale establishment than Tom Colicchio's sandwich chain, and the buildout and design is being handled by Cass Calder Smith Architecture, who also designed Barbacco, Twenty Five Lusk, and One Up at the Grand Hyatt.
More details are likely to arrive in the coming months, so stay tuned.
